Dr. Sullivan has served as special assistant to the vice-provost and as chair of the international affairs program at Northeastern. He has been a consultant for the World Bank and an advisor for the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights. Of his many publications, one of his most recent articles is "State and Civil Society in Conflict in Egypt" in Middle East Affairs Journal (1997). Dr. Sullivan holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Michigan.
