Ambassador Sterner served as a U.S. diplomat: deputy assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs, ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Director of Egyptian Affairs, and representative for the ARAMCO in Saudi Arabia. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the Board of Governors for the Middle East Institute. Ambassador Sterner received his A.B. degree in government from Harvard College.
