Dr. Singerman is an associate professor in the Government Department, School of Public Affairs at American University. She is the author of Avenues of Participation: Family, Politics, and Networks in Urban Quarters of Cairo (1995), and co-editor of Development, Change, and Gender in Cairo: A View from the Household (1996). She holds a Ph.D. in political science from Princeton University and is a board member of the Middle East Studies Association and Co-Chair of the Council on Comparative Studies.
