Ambassador Mack served as deputy assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern Affairs and as U.S. ambassador to the United Arab Emirates. He has also served as international affairs advisor at the National War College. He received the president's meritorious and distinguished service awards (the latter for work during the Gulf War). Ambassador Mack holds an M.A. in Middle East Studies from Harvard University. He also attended American University in Cairo.
