Dr. Long has served in Sudan, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Washington. His Washington assignments included deputy director of the State Department's office of counter terrorism for regional policy and chief of the Near East research division in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research. His publications include Gulf Security in the Twenty-First Century (with Christian Koch, 1997), The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (1997) and The Culture and Customs of Saudi Arabia (2005). He received a Ph.D. in international relations from George Washington University.
