Areas of Expertise Egypt, Morocco, Muslim Politics, Sudan
Dr. Cantori has done intensive study and research on Sudan and Islam, including a year in the Faculty of Theology at al Azhar University. He has also done extensive field work in Egypt and Morocco and has been a consultant on roads, water, and wastewater, education in Egypt, Israel and Occupied Territories. Dr. Cantori is a Distinguished Visiting Lecturer at the U.S. Department of State and has occupied chairs at the U.S. Military Academy West Point; the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Marine Corps University. He is a former sergeant of the Marines, briefed numerous flag officers on the Middle East, including generals Hoare, and Schwarzkopf, and was awarded the U.S. Army Medal for Public Service. Dr. Cantori is the author, co-author and editor of four books, such as Local Politics and Development in the Middle East and author of 60 articles. His most recent article, "The Bush Menu for Change in the Middle East", was published in Middle East Policy, Spring 2005. He is currently preparing two works for publication, The State, Democracy and Political Change in the Middle East and Tyranny and Domination in the Middle East: The Islamic Republican Response.
