Dr. Brand is director of the Center for International Studies, University of Southern California. She has been a consultant to Chemonics, Inc., and an assistant director and research fellow at the Institute for Palestine Studies. She is the author of Palestinians in the Arab World (1988), Jordan's Inter-Arab Relations (1995) and Women, the State and Political Liberalization: Middle East and North African Experiences (1998). She is a former term member of Council on Foreign Relations and a member of the International Institute of Strategic Studies, London. She received her Ph.D. in comparative politics from Columbia University.
