Mr. Viorst taught at Princeton University as Ferris professor of journalism and public policy. He was a writer and reporter for The Bergen Record, The Newark Star-Ledger, The Washington Post, The New York Post, The Washington Star, The International Letter (Paris), and The New Yorker, for which he was the Middle East correspondent. Mr. Viorst is the author of six books on Middle Eastern affairs, including In the Shadow of the Prophet: The Struggle for the Soul of Islam and What Shall I Do With This People? Jews and the Fractious Politics of Judaism. His most recent book is Storm from the East: The Conflict between the Arab World and the Christian West. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Mr. Viorst was educated at Harvard, University of Lyon (France) and Columbia.
