Areas of Expertise
Algeria, North Africa, Political Economy (Middle East and North Africa)
Dr. Akacem's areas of expertise include the general political economy of the Middle East, petroleum and development issues, OPEC, democracy and political change. He has published in refereed journals, as well as in the U.S. national press, and has given interviews to National Public Radio, Voice of America and the BBC among others. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
