Karen AbuZayd, former Commissioner-General for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNWRA) and current Middle East Policy Council board member, has recently been involved in investigating the human rights abuses of the Asad regime in Syria:

• September 12, 2011: Appointed to the three-person panel investigating the abuses of human rights by the Syrian government. This report was cited in the New York Times article “U.N. Count of Syria Dead Now at 2,600”: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/13/world/middleeast/13syria.html.

• November 28, 2011: Featured in a United Nations briefing regarding the investigation in human rights abuses by the Syrian government: http://www.un.org/News/briefings/docs/2011/111128_Syria.doc.htm.
