Dr. Gause has taught at Columbia University and was fellow for Arab and Islamic Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. He has held research positions at the RAND Corporation and the Brookings Institution. He was also president of the Society for Gulf Arab Studies. He is the author of Oil Monarchies: Domestic and Security Challenges in the Arab Gulf States (1994) and Saudi-Yemeni Relations: Domestic Structures and Foreign Influence (1990), as well as a number of articles in journals and edited volumes. Dr. Gause holds a Ph.D. in political science from Harvard University and studied Arabic at the American University in Cairo and at Middlebury College.
