Mr. Fuller's primary work is on the Middle East, Central Asia, Russian-Middle East relations, and Islamic fundamentalism. He served 20 years in the U.S. Foreign Service, most of that time in the Middle East. In 1982, he was appointed the National Intelligence Officer for near East and South Asia at the CIA. He was later named vice-chairman of the National Intelligence Council. He is the co-author of his third book A Sense of Siege: The Geopolitics of Islam and the West (1994). Mr. Fuller received an M.A. in Russian and Middle Eastern studies from Harvard University.
